The polarization seems quality, lenses arent so dark youre blinded going indoors. But living in the Southern California desert, I need darker than my old RayBan Aviators.
Ive owned RB Aviators prior to this. Both 3025s and older small aviators (forgetting model number). Ive had both the green/gray lens and brown gradient. I am a female and have lots of fine, curly hair SO... that means the nose pieces get caught in my hair up top. These are no different in that regard and is a quirk you must decide if you can accept as aviators are notorious for it.
Where there IS a marked difference is the lenses. Polarization with darker brown/purple leave my eyes feeling FAR more relaxed in super-bright situations, but arent over-dark. The other big difference is with the arms and earpieces. Yes, these DO have a tendency to catch hair where the plastic/rubber earpiece meets and overhangs the arm itself, just when you pull them off. Thats annoying and Im considering using a silicon filler to close the gap and hopefully solve the issue. BUT the reason it is worth it is the GREATEST improvement over other aviators... they do NOT squeeze the head at that sensitive point over/slightly behind the ears! They fit closely, nicely and - unlike past pairs - do NOT slide or fall off if I bend over or lean forward. IMHO that makes it worth dealing w/the annoying hair-grabbing issue! I can comfortably wear these all day/night.
Yes, there are other styles without that issue, but my nose tends to make glasses without separate nose-pieces sit slightly askew or lopsided. And the bigger/heavier arms tend to bother me as Im sensitive to pressure above/behind the ears. I also have a narrow, oval face. Ive even had tween-size glasses fit well.
Being older, I want the UV protection of a larger lens for skin around my eyes, but larger-style frames tend to make me look like a kid playing dress up. So Ive always worn aviators.
Back as a teen, I wore the Olympia IIs like 50% of teens at the time. If youre close to my age, youll remember the gold bar up top and that whole look... and everyone that didnt wear those either wore WayFarers or the guys wore those VERY dated Oakleys (you know the ones... multicolor visor-look LOL). That said, the styles that work with my face tend to be more petite as those were and provide far less coverage/protection.
People reading this who hear the particular issues of Aviators and think, Why?!! Well you were either drawn to the look or universal fit if youre here. Then there are those of us that love aviators and want something just a bit different, unique. If you are in that latter category, youll love these! If youre in the former, think about how you wear them. If you take off/on often or put on top of your head a lot, these may not be for you. But if youre one to put them on and leave them for the most part, its livable for the comfort and coverage. Most aviators are front-heavy so these truly fix many of those quirks, though they do add one.
